Solar Power for Ecological and Economic Advantage

Posted: Feb 07, 2012 |Comments: 0 | edit

It is not so much for the mounting costs of electric power that people are turning to solar power and other renewable energy sources but more because of the adverse effects of continued use of fossil fuel in generating power. We all know that our environment bears the brunt of the ill effects of long-term use of fossil fuel. Fumes from machines that power electric generators are pinpointed as one of the causes of climate change and global warming. It is only a matter of time before we wake up to a harsh and hostile environment if we do not actively take part in trying to mitigate or, if possible, reverse the injury our industries are inflicting to mother Earth.

Previous generations talk about how the climate of today has changed and markedly warmer than when they were young. Today's generation raise their eyebrows as it could not fully understand what these "old men and women" are talking about. Books may have been published comparing yesterday's climate and weather to that of today but they are only figures that do not mean much despite the stern warnings attached by scientists to the apparently unwelcome hostile change. People have to have a "feel" of what they read before they can fully grasp its real meaning. Diesel or petrol driven cars are more fun to drive than their "eco" counterparts because the former are mature technologies while the latter is still undergoing modifications before they can at least be at par with traditional cars. It will take a while before the general public can appreciate the advantages of renewable energy powered cars especially on our environment. One "eco" car counts only one and it is extremely difficult to emphasise its impact on the environment if you fail to do the necessary math of its worldwide collective positive effect.

Solar power is by far the best alternative to fossil fuel for Earthlings to again experience what "old men and women" are talking about when they reminisce about the "good old days". It may be designed so it could power whole states or for stand-alone units such as cars, homes or individual lampposts such as modules being donated by rich countries to far-flung third-world villages otherwise unreachable by mainstream electric power. No elaborate distribution lines are necessary as it derives its power directly from the sun and stored in battery packs called photovoltaic units that could last for many hours and recharged again when the sun comes up. The same principle applies to cars but fitted with more elaborate mechanisms so that it could function in a manner that it could compare with traditional cars.

Let us all be one in harnessing the unlimited power of the sun for the sake of our Mother Earth.

The word "progessive" sounds good, because it makes you think of "progress." But since it is slowly taking America (and the rest of the world) away from the principles of liberty, private property, and limited government upon which the nation was founded (and which made the United States the greatest engine of strength and prosperity for all the world's peoples in the history of the human race), progressivism definitely isn't progress....

As a marketing tool, it is no doubt that the web can be considered the most effective and efficient option. Some people, especially from the third world, may question the statement since computers are generally expensive for the average household there. In what better ways can the web be used? Current and future technologies will definitely play a major role toward that direction.
